How do I prepare for
the test?
No preparation is required for
this test although we recommend against having a heavy meal
before the test.
What will happen during
the test?
You will either have to
exercise on a treadmill and we will carry out the ultrasound
immediately afterwards. Alternatively, if you cannot walk
on the treadmill a small amount of fluid will be injected
into your arm to mimic exercise and make your heart go
faster and the echocardiogram taken.
What will the test
result tell me?
The resulting ultrasound image
of your heart during exertion can point out abnormalities in
its structure and function. We should be able to report on
the result by the following day.
What happens next?
If the scan is abnormal you
will be advised of further tests. Our doctors will
recommend follow-up procedures.
